“Proof that I am a beautiful and sensual being”

As an Ottawa Boudoir Photographer, I meet many different women from all ages and at different stages in their lives. Meet Miss B! For many years of struggling with depression, she came to realize that she needed to bring some joy into her life, to live in the moment and celebrate herself and her body. This is her story:

Q: What’s going on in your life right now that motivated you to do a session?
Miss B:  I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder in 2010 and have had five episodes since then.  But I remember being depressed but undiagnosed in the 1990’s. My current episode began November 2018 and this is the worst ever. I chose to do this session in part to help me find joy in myself.  In addition, I want to celebrate my body and capture beautiful images of me at this point in my life.

Q: Besides beautiful photographs, what else did you hope to get out of the experience?
Miss B:   I wanted to let go and just enjoy the moment and feel sexy and sensual in front of the camera.  It was fun to be the center of attention too!

Q: How long had you been considering doing a shoot before you booked yours? What was the final push? What did it feel like to finally book your session?
Miss B:   I considered the photo session for about four months.  The final push was turning 55 and wanting to capture a record of me at this point in my life.  I felt absolutely fantastic and over the top excited when I booked the session!!

Q: Before your session, how would you describe your relationship with your body, your beauty and your sensuality?
Miss B:  With respect to my body…there are parts of it that I dislike.  For example, my waist literally disappeared overnight in 2003 and it has never returned.  I’m never happy when I look at it.  On the other hand I love the skin I’m in otherwise because I’ve accepted it.

Q: How did doing a session affect how you feel about your body, your beauty and your sensuality?
Miss B:  Aside from the shots that painfully still show a belly that I’m not ready to consider as “rubenesque”, your photography reminded me of how sexy I can be when I want to.  I know that this sexiness is still there even though I’m alone and spend a lot of time in yoga pants!  The photos from the session are art and truly bring out proof that I am a beautiful and sensual being. Thank you Suzanne, I needed this session more than you can imagine!

Q: What were you worried about before your session? What helped to overcome that?
Miss B:  I was nervous that I was going to look fat in my photos because I am overweight despite losing 20 lbs over the last year.  I really helped that I was able to choose different outfits and we had many different poses that compliment my body.  You are a true professional Suzanne!

Q: Tell me about your session day: How did you feel on your way over? What were your favorite parts? How did you feel on the way home?
Miss B:  On my way over I was very nervous.  During the session my favourite parts were: (1) the photos with my long gown, especially with the extra piece of material, (2) the pink cover up with nude underneath, and (3) the black sparkly body suit.  Please know that every part was FANTASTIC!  On the way home, I was absolutely exhausted and I napped after – part of that is my depression.  I had no stiffness the next day because i stretched and hydrated well, as you recommended.

Q: What were you feeling when you saw your photos at the viewing?
Miss B:   I was in AWE! I was AMAZED! I was somewhat embarrassed as well.  How do I explain that last feeling?  During the photo session it’s very clear the day is for you.  The viewing is more an objective process.  My feelings are a little dull now because last week I had to call 911 because I was in severe emotional distress and I was taken to the hospital.  I’m still recovering so I’m not 100 percent myself.  I’m so looking forward to quietly going through the book alone.

Q: Why did you decide to hire me as your photographer?Miss B:  I believe your advertising first showed up in my Facebook feed.  I then visited your website and I was moved by your photos.  They were sexy, sensual and reflected different kinds of people.  I wanted to feel how those women looked.

Q: If your friend were considering doing a shoot, what would you say to encourage her?
Miss B:   I love the quote: “life is not a dress rehearsal”.  You are beautiful and your partner would love (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) the results.  But more importantly YOU will too!  It’s a great way to see the woman in you. Standing in front of a camera all glammed up with your fav bra and panties is incredibly empowering!
