OMG, I found out this week that I received an award by the AIBP (Association of International Boudoir Photographers) – this time for their weekly themed contest (this week’s theme: “Black”). This week’s judge was the amazing Aroha McKaig of The Boudoir Lounge by Hartistree (in London).
“With so many great submissions this week, it made my job a difficult one. There were some really outstanding images to select from so well done everyone. I chose Suzanne’s image as the winner because not only is the posing of her client on point in this shot, I also love the contrast between the white chair against the clients black lingerie and her milky skin. It really makes the “black” pop. She is also lit beautifully. This image has a very classic and timeless feel to it and everything about it says “class!” — Aroha McKaig (judge and fellow member of AIBP).
To be recognised by this amazing group of boudoir photographers is a real honour, especially with the caliber of talent there. To be perfectly honest, I almost didn’t enter. The contest entries are collected in the AIBP’s Facebook page and you can view all the entries as they get submitted. When I saw one particular entry, by the amazing Agnes Fohn, I thought “Oh, why bother? THAT’S the winner for sure!”. I commented on her gorgeous image and said that it looked like it belonged in a Calvin Klein perfume advertisement or Vogue magazine or BOTH! Agnes was very flattered by my comment that she replied, “That is such an awesome compliment!! I’ve been trying for YEARS to get on PhotoVogue with no luck! But you just inspired me to submit this! Thank you!! P.S. I LOVE your work, woman!!” To say I was flattered is indeed an understatement. I love this community of brilliant photographers and how they encourage and lift each other up!
